Whether you’re a subject matter expert looking to get out of your comfort zone and step on stage for the first time, or you’re a seasoned speaking circuit vet trying to take the next step, we can all use some help to get ahead.
And when it comes to booking speaking gigs, a little help can go an extraordinarily long way.
At first glance, even though the market for speakers is lucrative, it’s ultra competitive. You’re competing for a limited amount of space against incredibly talented humans, each with their own unique story and insights to share with the world.
So the question is, how do you stand out enough to book those gigs that get you to the next level.
Our goal here was to help you figure that out by producing THE definitive guide on how to book a speaking gig in 2019.
How to Book Speaking Gigs in 2019
Regardless of the type of speaking gig (paid or unpaid) that you’re going for, you need to be able to articulate these four important points very clearly, and very concisely.
- Who you are?
One sentence about you that is so powerful that someone keeps reading on.
- What gives you the credibility to speak on the topic you are proposing?
One to two sentences which explain what it is about you that is head and shoulders above anyone else when it comes to this topic.
- What is your topic?
One concise sentence that explains the topic, followed by another that explains why it matters.
- What will the audience take away from your talk?
As briefly as possible, explain what it is about your talk that will leave the audience wanting to talk about it with their friends.
If you can master these steps, then you’re well on your way to booking some great gigs. But in order to to get to the highest level, there’s still more work to be put into your pitches. Here are a few things that your pitch can’t live without.
Must Have Attributes In 2019
It’s 2019. This is non negotiable. You need to have a video of you speaking to an audience if you want to book any gigs.
Include your main social media handles because everyone you pitch will want to see that you’ve got an audience.
Anyone you pitch will be looking for testimonial quotes and videos so if you have them, share them and if you don’t, then start planning to
Regardless of whether it’s a paid gig or an unpaid gig, video, social media presence and testimonials are absolutely essential. You might find it tough if you’re just trying to break in, but there are plenty of unpaid speaking opportunities through which you can cut your teeth and begin to level up.
